5 Tips to Help You Achieve Your 2018 Health Goals

A new year can be an extremely exciting time, filled with the promise of fresh starts and new beginnings. It is also a new opportunity to recommit to your health and well-being. Creating these resolutions is easy enough. Sticking to them beyond the month of January, however, is a completely different story.

Whether the New Year has you feeling totally inspired or just a tad overwhelmed, our experts at Amazing Nutrition have some advice to help you make – and keep – your resolutions for 2018.

Practice Mindful Eating

These days, it is extremely common to eat a meal with your eyes completely glued to a screen, whether that screen is on a phone or a television. The problem is, distracted eating leads to overeating. Be sure that you take the time to slow things down a little bit and pay attention to your food, pausing to put down utensils between bites. When you eat mindfully, it is so much easier to know when you are full and food tastes better when you are focused on it.

Rest Up and Chill Out

When it is time to sleep it is time to chill. Lower your thermostat down to 68 degrees or even lower before you tuck into bed so that you have a comfortable sleep. Also, take time to darken your curtains and dim the display on your phone or alarm clock to really get those high-quality Z’s.

Take the Stairs

Making small, daily changes such as taking the stairs instead of an elevator may seem minor, but they can make a GIGANTIC change in the long run. It is proven that individuals that are active are less likely to get cardiovascular disease.

Adopt a New Attitude of Gratitude

Be sure that you set some time aside in either the beginning or end of your day to reflect upon what you are thankful for. An easy and useful way to do this is by either keeping a journal or having a daily grateful check-in. These will help you shift your focus and minimize the ever-distorting feeling of stress. Taking time to remind us of the small, everyday positive aspects of our lives will help us develop a sense of balance and perspective that will truly enhance someone’s well-being.

Take a Walk

Getting the recommended 30 minutes of exercise per day is as easy as taking a simple walk. If you have an extremely busy schedule, take three 10-minute walks throughout your day. You could take a 10-minute walk before breakfast, a 10-minute walk before lunch, and then a 10-minute walk after you get out of work. Don’t forget to make it fun as well! Go on a walk with a friend or family member that you can talk to or catch up with without feeling distracted by other factors. At the end of the day, taking a step in the right direction to increase your wellness is a great idea. From waking up and taking a multivitamin with orange juice to setting aside some time for cardio can make a big difference over time. If you plan on spending lots of time exercising, be sure that you speak with your doctor so that you have an idea of how much you can handle.

Get excited and know that 2018 is going to be YOUR YEAR!
